Steve Thompson

Steve Thompson is a portfolio manager with over 16 years' experience in UK equity markets.
Steve runs NewSmith’s UK Equity Team, which manages both high performance long-only mandates and a
long-short equity portfolio for institutional investors.
Prior to joining NewSmith in 2004, Steve was head of the highly successful UK Specialist Equity Team at Merrill Lynch
Investment Managers (MLIM) between 1998 and 2003, overseeing a five-year period of exceptional performance and asset
growth. While at MLIM, he co-managed, among other funds, the Merrill Lynch UK Equity hedge Fund and the Merrill Lynch UK Dynamic Fund.
Steve joined Mercury Asset Management in 1990, which was then acquired by Merrill Lynch in 1997. Prior to Mercury,
he was a Chartered Accountant with Price Waterhouse. Steve has a degree in Economics from Bristol University.
