Shinya Kawahara

Shinya Kawahara is partner in charge of client services at NewSmith Capital Partners Japan. He has
over 13 years’ experience in Japanese financial services.
Prior to joining NewSmith, Shinya worked at Japan Alternative Investment Co., Ltd. in Tokyo, a securities
firm specialising in alternative investment products, where he was responsible for dealing with mid- to large-sized
clients, including corporate pension funds, public pension funds and financial institutions. Before JAI he worked
in a number of capacities at Chase Manhattan in Tokyo, latterly holding responsibility for client relationships at
J.P. Morgan Fleming Asset Management (Japan). He began his career at The Norinchukin Bank in 1993.
Shinya is a chartered member of the Securities Analysts Association of Japan. He holds a Master of Economics from
Hosei University Graduate School and a Bachelor of Economics from Okayama University.
