Jefferson Hughes
Chief Executive Officer, NewSmith Capital (US)
Jeff Hughes joined NewSmith Capital Partners in September 2006 as Partner
responsible for establishing the Firm’s first office in North America.
He has a distinguished Wall Street career spanning more than 30 years at
Merrill Lynch, which he joined in 1972. Most recently he was Chairman of
Merrill’s Global Markets and Investment Banking (GMI) business in Latin
America and Canada, and Head of Global Relationship Management, coordinating
coverage of the Firm’s most important institutional investors and private clients.
Jeff is also a Consultant and Adviser to the Olayan
Group, and serves as a Partner and Director of Capital Formation Group and Family
Capital Trust Company. He is a Consultant and Director of Merrill Lynch Venture
Funds and Private Equity Funds.
Amongst his charitable activities, Jeff is Chairman of the Board of Trustees
of the Nature Conservancy on Long Island, a member of the Executive Committee
of New York’s Diocesan Investment Trust and Chairman of its Investment
Committee, and a Member of the Corporation of the Woods Hole Oceanographic
Institute.
He is a graduate of Villanova University and attended the New York University
Graduate School of Business.
