Tan Lay Keong

Tan Lay Keong is a portfolio manager on NewSmith’s Asian equity team. She has 20 years of investment experience.

Prior to joining NewSmith, Lay Keong was a Director and Associate Partner at Wellington Management. She led the Asian investment team and spearheaded Wellington’s investment efforts in the Asia Pacific region. During her tenure at Wellington, she managed Hong Kong/China-centric, Emerging Asia and Developed Asia Pacific (including Australia) portfolios. In addition, she provided investment advice to Wellington’s global hedge funds and international equity portfolios on a variety of Asia Pacific ex-Japan sectors.

She also sat on the Global Equity Strategy Group which developed country and industry investment strategy for Wellington’s international portfolios and was a member of the Global Emerging Markets team.

Lay Keong’s extensive investment experience spans various leading investment institutions. At Morgan Grenfell Investment Management, she was a Senior Associate Director responsible for managing Asian equity portfolios. Before that, she was with Temasek Holdings, a Singapore government investment firm, as a portfolio manager in Asian equities.

Lay Keong earned her BSc in Mathematics and Economics from National University of Singapore. She holds the professional designation of Chartered Financial Analyst.
